L. Alice Thelen, 75 of St. Johns, MI died on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Hazel Findlay Country Manor. She was born on December 21, 1938 in Bannister, MI the daughter of John and Susan (Podmajersky) Strachota. Alice graduated from Elsie High School in 1956 and Central Michigan University with a Masters Degree in Education. On June 21, 1958 she married Alan J. Thelen in Bannister. Alice was an elementary school teacher at St. Johns Public Schools for 22 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Art, crafts, cooking and sewing were her hobbies. Her family, especially her grandchildren, was the love of her life.
Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Alan; daughter Linda Thelen, son Tim Thelen, daughter Julie Aprill, son-in-law, Brian Aprill. Grandchildren, Nicole White, Brianna White, Tayler Thelen, Desmond White and Michael Thelen. One great grandson, Aidan Washburne.
Alice was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014, 10:00 A.M at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home on Friday, May 16, 2014, 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
