Juanita O'Leary, 91 of St. Johns passed away on June 9, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born June 14, 1918 in Manchester, Michigan to Leon and Cora (Hoelzer) Stautz.
Juanita graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1936, and then attended Eastern Michigan University.
After college she went into the restaurant business. In 1955 she settled in St. Johns and purchased a small ice cream stand, which she developed into what was known as The Wheel Inn Restaurant. She was very passionate about service for her beloved customers, as well as training and mentoring the hundreds of young people in her employment over the years. She owned and operated "The Wheel" until she sold it 44 years later in 1999.
Survived by her four children Nancy Moore and Denise Starck both of St. Johns, John Joseph (Susan) O'Leary, of Greensboro, NC and Patti (Doug) Lehman of St. Louis, MO. 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Sister-in-laws Marilyn and Norma Stautz.
Preceded in death by her husband John and her brothers Robert and Theodore.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday June 12, 2010 at The First Congregational Church of St. Johns with Rev. Matthew Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home (989) 224-4422 Thursday 5-8PM and Friday 2-4 and 6-8PM.
Memorials may be made to the Juanita O'Leary Restaurant Management Hospitality Scholarship at Citizens Bank St. Johns or to the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary to benefit the needs of the hospital and its patients.
