Obituary for Genevieve C. Simon

Genevieve Catherine Simon passed away peacefully at Rosewood AFC in DeWitt on Thursday, February 22, 2018. She was born in Westphalia on June 17, 1926 to John and Alvina (Arens) Martin. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. On June 25, 1947, she married Clarence P. Simon and they shared 67 years together. Clarence and Gen were long time co-owners and operators of Simon’s Restaurant. Genevieve later was a real estate agent and then worked at and retired from Clinton Memorial Hospital. Gen always had a passion for cooking and baking for our many family gatherings. Gen and Clarence loved to travel! They took countless road trips over the years, Clarence drove and Gen was his navigator. Surviving are her children, Carol (Steve) Harry, Gene (Nita) Simon, Marilyn (Ray) Hintz, Ellen (Walt) Wheeler. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Pauline George, Alice (Jim) Becker, Catherine (Clair) Thelen, Jack Martin and sisters-in-law, Adelene Martin, Bernadine Martin, Frances Thelen, Joan Simon, Regina Simon, and Dolores Schueller and her very special friend and caregiver Sharon Weber. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence in 2014, infant children Gary, Janet, and Janice; sister, Eileen Schafer; brothers, Robert, Clifford, and Dale; sisters-in-law, Josephine Simon, Dorothy Bradley, Marie Martin; brothers-in-law, Bernard Schafer, Ronald Simon, Leon Simon, Bernard Simon, Edward Simon, Philip Simon, Larry Motz, Joe Thelen and Marion Bradley. Our family would like to express many thanks to the owners and staff at Rosewood AFC. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fowler. Interment will follow at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery.
