Obituary for Richard C. "Dick" DePond

Richard C. (Dick) DePond, 91 of Ovid/Elsie died on July 12, 2017. Dick was born on March 11, 1926 in Battle Creek, MI the son of C. Richard and Gladys (Boehmer) DePond. On September, 6 1947 he married Marie A. Halliday in Bellevue, MI. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2017. Dick was a US Army veteran serving in both WWII and the Korean War. After graduating from Michigan State College Dick became owner of Ovid Roller Mills. He enjoyed all the customers, friends, employees, and their families that he and Marie worked with at the mill. He served on the Ovid-Elsie School Board, Clinton County Board of Commissioners and was also active in the Ovid United Church, Lions Club, VFW, Elsie American Legion and other various community activities. Dick and Marie enjoyed being a part of the community and formed many lasting friendships.
In his leisure time Dick enjoyed the outdoors. Camping, fishing trips to Canada and especially the many years at the Big Falls Hunting Club. During his winters in Florida he enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage.
Dick is survived by his children, David (Kathy) DePond of Laingsburg, Robert (Teela) DePond of Leeton, MO and Susan (Mike) Mulder of Belding, MI, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, brother Jack (Mary Ellen) DePond of Leon, IA and sister Martie (Nelson) Dull of Battle Creek, MI.
A military graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be given to Ovid Lions Club or Ovid United Church.
A memorial service for Dick and Marie will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at United Church of Ovid.
